Tonight’s episode begins with a white man who broke into a prominent black family home to get something. He went on to kill the whole family the moment he got what he wanted and he slept in their bed afterward. He was that cold. The neighbors saw him leaving the next morning. They called it into the local police and the police later found the bodies of the family. The victims were Dr. Johnson, his wife Jade, and their fifteen-year-old son Calvin. The man responsible was identified by street cameras. He was Harley Ross. Ross was a meth head. When the case was passed on to the FBI’s most wanted unit, they thought that Ross could have broken into the home to get the prescription pad and so they checked that. And no one has used the late doctor’s prescription pad lately.
Meaning it wasn’t about drugs. It had to be about something else. The team looked into Ross and he’s been in and out of trouble his entire adult life. His mother walked out when he was young. He was raised by his father and he inherited the house after his dad died. They found a second set of prints at the dad’s house. It belonged to a woman identified as Lucy Carver. There were no signs of this woman at the house and at first LaCroix’s team thought she could have been an accomplice. But her fingerprints weren’t at the first crime scene nor was it at the second one. The second crime scene involved a hospital care coordinator and his wife.
The man known as Allen had worked with Johnson at the same hospital. They had both spoken to Lucy about her domestic violence situation with Harley and they tried to get her help. She turned them down at first. Then she reached out to the online service they told her about and she escaped Harley. Harley was an abusive control freak. He sent Lucy to the hospital six times in seven years. They only got together because Lucy’s father was another control freak and she, unfortunately, fell for something she thought was acceptable behavior. Lucy’s parents died. Her brother was no longer in contact with her since she started dating Harley.
So, Harley was more than just abusive. He tried to cut everyone out of Lucy’s life until it was just him and that’s why she was so scared to leave him at first though she eventually did get the courage in the end. She left him. Harley couldn’t let it go and that’s when he started to hunt down Lucy. He targeted the men who convinced her to run. He got a hold of the website used to help her escape. Harley got into contact with someone around the same time that the FBI met up with the woman who ran the site. She was a good woman. She started helping victims of domestic abuse after her best friend was murdered by her boyfriend in college and so she told the team what she knew.
It wasn’t much. The victim puts in order on a website of a nine-inch chain and one bracelet and one ring (9-1-1) and they get a message from whoever is on call that they could get an instant pickup. The transporter doesn’t get the name or the details. They just take the victims to a host family. Harley had found out where Lucy was taken. He tortured a transporter for the information and if the team hadn’t interrupted him – he would have killed the poor woman. Then from there, Harley went to the host’s home where Lucy was hiding and he killed her host and made off with Lucy in a stolen car.
It was unclear at first why he wouldn’t have just killed Lucy right then and there. Then they got Lucy’s medical records. They found out that she had a baby about six years ago when Harley was in prison and they suspected he just found out about it. The team looked into it. They found the adoption agency that Lucy used. Her daughter Mia was sick with leukemia. The caseworker reached out to Lucy to see if she was willing to get tested and that’s when Harley walked in. He found out about his daughter. He beat up Lucy. Lucy had to get out of there and she used the underground network for people like her.
But Harley caught up to her. He demanded to know where his daughter was because his daughter was his property and he wanted her to be under his control. Harley eventually found out his daughter was sick. She was at the hospital. He went there trying to kidnap her and LaCroix’s team stopped him. They stopped him from taking Mia. Also, when he pulled his gun at Lucy, it was LaCroix who stepped into the bullet’s path. LaCroix was shot. He later died from his wounds and that was the end of Special Agent LaCroix.
