SDCC 2019: ABC's Emergence Panel Recap

ABC is getting ready to premiere Emergence this fall but attendees at this year’s San Diego Comic Con got the first sneak peek at the pilot episode. The mystery-themed drama series stars Allison Tolman (Jo), Alexa Swinton (Piper), Owain Yeoman (Benny), Ashley Aufderheide (Bree), Robert Bailey Jr. (Officer Chris), Zabryna Guevara (Abby), Donald Faison (Alex) and Clancy Brown (Ed).

After an unexplained crash happens, Jo takes in Piper who was found at the center of the incident but has no recollection of what happened. Jo is determined to not only keep the little girl safe but investigate the reasoning behind off all of this.

The sneak peek of the first episode looks promising and once the discussion was open for the panel, the energy of the room was a much lighter tone than the show itself. In fact, Swinton stole the entire panel with her upbeat presence, a complete 360 than her alter-ego, Piper. It was evident that the cast has a good time not only on set but offset too.

Writers/executive producers Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas are more than ready to introduce their show even with the binge-watching culture we live in today, “[we just want to] tell the best story, best version of the show” and refuse to assume how people will take in the show.
