The Five Most Followed Celebrities on Twitter

Publish date: 2024-05-16

The world has changed over the last decade. Power is now seen in a manner of different ways. One of the most pronounced ways celebrities show they have power and fame is by their Twitter following, as well as their general presence and following on social media in general. The bigger the presence on Twitter and other social media platforms, the bigger the star. People with the dream of fame in their mind need to just accept that social media and celebrity now go hand-in-hand. With that in mind, we decided to compile you a list of the five most followed celebrities on Twitter. Though we are sure a few of these names are suspected, we bet one or two may surprise you.

Katy Perry

Leading the charge with over fifty million followers in Katy Perry. She calls herself a dark horse, but the truth is, she is actually leading the pack. Try to fathom that for a few moments. Over fifty million people follow her on twitter, hanging on her every character. Truth be told, she does seem like a pretty cool chick, so we get it.

Justin Bieber

I know you all expected the Biebz to be on top, but he is a couple million followers behind the lovely Miss Perry. Truth is, we expect these numbers from him. He has his gaggle of Beliebers who are pretty much a small army of teenage girls who devote their entire lives to the worship of this boy. Considering his fan base is so young, it makes sense he would have such a strong social media presence.

Lady Gaga

She does it all for the applause, so it makes sense to us that her gang of “little monsters” as she calls her fans, would feverishly follow this fashion icon around. I think the most surprising thing at this point is the fact that there are NO actors or actresses in the top five. It is pretty much all filled with major pop stars. Well, the president is in there, too, but we are skipping him because being a president is more a political thing than a celebrity thing.

Taylor Swift

Next up, racking in just over 40 million followers on Twitter, we have the fragile swan herself, Taylor Swift. Known to be the young woman who tries to give other young women good direction and guide them through a world full of pot holes, her following on social media is massive, and reflects how deeply she connects with her die hard fan base. She recently moved to Rhode Island, and has amassed a gang of real followers, too. They follow her from her house to her car, snapping pics. Oh wait, that is paparazzi? My bad.

Britney Spears

Rounding out the list with almost 38 million followers is Britney Spears. We Actually found this entry quite surprising. We know she has her gig in Vegas, but outside of that, she has been off the radar for quite a few years. It just shows you, followers on Twitter and social media can be really committed to the celebrities they follow, no matter what happens to their career.
